Vietnam Sea Breeze to Tunnel Life: Plus David and Tim's adventure!

The team Left Hue (imperial city) after a big night out for some of the crew.  Motorbikes ready at 0800, off we went.

After diverting to fuel up, we rode along the coast road with the distinctive smell of sea air and the view of fish farms and white ducks everywhere.  At this point Terry and Tim were showered with Water buffalo poo followed by an undetermined fluid chucked out the window of a passing bus.

And Remember, Charlie Don't Surf?

It was on our way to the Vihn Moc tunnels that we came across a roadside junkyard specalising in war memorabilla.  An amazing treasure trove of stuff!

Vihn moc tunnels were next and provided a welcome rest and reflection on the hardships endured by the Vietnamese people during the war.  At this point, Toby and David decided that the tunnels were not for us and had a nice cup of coffee instead.  On the other hand, Tim, Neil, Russ and Terry breathed in and headed underground.    A quite amazing sight… or so I was told!

It was then onwards then onwards to the hotel in Dong Hoi, 30km of very boring dual carriageway followed by 30 km on winding track (including riding through a wedding celebration) until our gravel track gave way to a massive highway that ended on the seafront.   Where to go next?

Two intrepid explorers took the Indiana Joines style challenge while Terry and Neil joined Toby’s tumblers and took the main road.

After conquering the sandy bottomed river, the duo moved onto shifting sand dunes.

Then it was a case of where does the sand covered road go?  Good job the satnav did not run out of battery here!  Oh, sorry it did!

If things could not get worse, the road turned to reveal a 10ft washed out section, but no worry, the intrepid duo conquered it!

Now after all this adventuring, we were worried that he road may come to a dead end, imagine our surprise when a security guard appeared from nowhere and directed us down another gravel track… Only for us to realise there was a pristine golf course on the other side of the hedge!

Now, things may have been getting better, indeed, we bumped into team tumbler who had recced the next part of the route and declared it “impassable” as flooded.  Not so for the intrepid duo!  By a combination of high speed river (well small stream) crossing and sand dune re-routing, the flooding was bypassed.

Follow the red line!

Feeling rather chuffed with themselves the duo were brought down to earth when they met the next chap on the track……  A lone push biker, an ex Green Jacket from Nottingham who has been on the road for the past 17 months who was completely non plussed about the challenging road ahead.

In the middle on nowhere new roads would just appear and dissapear just as quickly!

Finally, we rode round the biggest roundabout I have ever seen and Tim got a puncture!  Dickie, are you keeping up?
